New Doors Open for Domestic Ministry:SOMA’s Expanding Impact in the U.S.

When we say our name, Sharing of Ministries Abroad, we often think of overseas missions; however, “Abroad” also includes North America!

An Inspired Vision

In 2022, I read a report from the 1978 Anglican International Conference on Spiritual Renewal. The conference was a pioneering global event that brought together 300 Anglican bishops and priests who were seeking spiritual renewal. Just as Michael Harper, the first National Director of SOMA, was inspired to orchestrate the conference, I too was inspired after reading the report. The question arose in my heart, “Why can’t we gather for a renewal event in our Province!?” Four years later, the REHYDRATE conference was breathed on by God and came to life in February 2026.

At the end of last year, the Lord provided additional inspiration for a shorter conference geared towards ACNA parishes. In March, the “Transformed” workshop was launched. This one-day course reminds Christians of who they are in Jesus. We explore our inheritance in Christ and invite people to let grace transform them from the inside. Then we encourage them to “go” and live a renewed, holy, and bold life for Christ.

A Growing Vision for Home

When we say our name, Sharing of Ministries Abroad, we often think of overseas missions; however, “Abroad” also includes North America! The “Mission to the USA” initiative brings respected global leaders from other cultures to teach and minister at a locally. New doors have opened. SOMA is bringing additional Spirit-empowered ministry home, igniting fresh hope among American congregations. SOMA teams are leading churches to rediscover the Biblical fullness of the Holy Spirit. People are experiencing freedom from spiritual oppression, being equipped for effective spiritual warfare, and embracing God’s call to mission.

Two recent conferences illustrate how this domestic ministry is unfolding. In February, SOMA collaborated with the American Anglican Council (AAC) to organize the first provicial-wide renewal conference called REHYDRATE. The conference was hosted by Christ Church Savannah and brought together clergy and church members from across the nation. After REHYDRATE wrapped up, several people asked us, “When can you bring REHYDRATE to our part of the country?” We are currently seeking God’s guidance on where the next one will be held.

REHYDRATE Renewal Conference

“I felt like God gave me a fresh anointing and a fresh word, and it was perfect timing.”

In March, SOMA led “Transformed” in the Fort Worth Diocese. This spiritual workshop focuses on a Christian’s identity as God’s child and a co-heir of the Kingdom with Christ. The negative feeling of “I am not worthy” of Christ’s sacrifice and love seems far too common in the Church. Often, this one untruth, held in the wrong light, can keep us from advancing as effective disciples. The book of Hebrews says that Jesus is the “author and perfecter of our faith”. Therefore, we are worthy because He saved us, and the Spirit continues to sanctify us as we cooperate with His grace. Through discussion and small groups, we affirm our identity, talk about curses and their effects, and practically equip Christians for victory against the “powers of this dark world.”

Transformed Workshop

• I was reminded of who I am in Christ and that his resurrection power is in me!

• Transformed covered vital aspects of discipleship that are often not addressed.

• I feel a bit bolder in my faith, and I feel stronger.

Join the Movement

Our prayer is that these new domestic ministries will not only bless individuals in the ACNA but also inspire fresh waves of sending and sharing the Gospel across the street and around the world. I invite you to pray, partner, and participate as God opens these new doors. Whether you are a church leader, intercessor, or supporter, your partnership is crucial in this exciting season.

For a financial gift of any amount to SOMA’s domestic or international ministry, we’re excited to offer a simple thank you: we will send a link to twelve carefully curated images. These photographs have been compiled from my travels and are perfectly formatted as a desktop or laptop screen saver. I love using these on my home computer and rotate through regularly. I think you will enjoy them too!

Thank you, and may God bless you.
